Michael Gebreslassie – Co-Director, Priority Africa Network
Michael Gebreslassie is Co-Director of Priority Africa Network and a long-time educator, community advocate, and bridge-builder. Born and raised in Eritrea, Michael’s journey has been shaped by his passion for Pan-Africanism, education, and grassroots empowerment.
He holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Education and Diplomatic Leadership from Japan and earned his Doctorate in Educational Leadership for Social Justice from California State University, East Bay in 2023. After moving to the U.S. in 2015, Michael taught in Oakland public schools for six years and currently serves as Vice Principal at Fremont High School.
Michael’s commitment to community organizing extends well beyond the classroom. He has worked closely with African immigrant communities throughout California, offering support, advocacy, and mentorship to help individuals navigate the complexities of migration and cultural adjustment. His volunteer work and collaborative projects have strengthened networks of care, solidarity, and resistance among African diasporic communities.
At PAN, Michael brings a vision grounded in justice, unity, and the belief that education and organizing are powerful tools for transformation. His leadership reflects a deep-rooted commitment to uplifting African communities and creating spaces where the diaspora can thrive.
